Blackie on his Birthday

It's getting dark and here is Manny Man sitting at the step out front. Always keeping watch of his kingdom.
Blackies (Manny Man) Trip to the Vet
We recently had a trip to the vet which is always an....experience. So I got him in his carrying box without much incident. The trip to the vet is 20 minutes. I know because I'm watching the clock the whole time. I never knew a cat who liked vehicle rides. He meowed the whole way, you know what I'm talking about.
We got to the vet and sat down in the waiting room. There was an older lady with her cat there and her cat was in a similar carrying box. Then from the reception area out comes the "house cat". He lives at the vet and just wonders around the place. Blackie (Manny Man) wasn't too bothered by this but had a lot to say anyways and started to meow. Just talking a bit. I shoved my fingers through the cage he sniffed them and then quietened down a little. But then he started meowing a bit clawing at the cage like he has claustrophobia or something like that. Then he stopped and was quiet as a mouse. I thought, "Thank God".
The house cat was gone. The door opens in the vets' office then out comes the biggest Great Dane you EVER seen. I feel this huge smile cross my face. This was Marmaduke. Huge. After my initial shock wore off I remember Blackie. I look down at him and his eyes are big like quarters as if to say, I'm OK 'Mommy, I just want to stay in here. Don't say a peep to me I'm not here'

Black Has Fangs He is A Vampire Cat

Here is Blackie on his birthday which happens to be on Halloween. We do have a party for him but unfortunety it is bitter sweet as he is not allowed outside past six pm. His normal curfew is ten pm. He is cool with that. Not so cooperative with the six o'clock time as it is such a purrfect night out for a vampire cat like himself.

Hello Camera

Here is Blackie out and about in the garden. He is warming up to the camera now. He was not sure about it at first. He would immediately come running towards the camera before I could take the shot. The photo would be of the tip of his tail or just the back end of his body most times.

Blackie / Garden Notes

Manny Man is doing just fine in his kingdom, safe and sound in air conditioning on these hot summer days. I've been weeding in the evenings now to avoid the heat. I don't like weeding very much when the mosquitoes are bad. I also do not like using bug spray very much. Which leads me to saying it has been perfect for weeding now.

Last night I had my first snack of cherry tomatoes and peas. Very yummy.
I also picked another cup of wild raspberries for the record.

A Brief Story of Blackie

This is BLACKIE affectionately aka "Manny Man"
07/02/2014 Blackie came to us from every direction. Who did he be long to? He showed up in the meadow one day. I worried about him on a regular basis. He came and went as he pleased. We had no history of him at all, he appeared to be feral as he hunted on our property. He certainly did not behave like a 'pet house cat'. Blackie was extremely nervous in the house the first couple of months. Matter of fact, his first visit was in the back door and out the front door. His second visit the same. He was very random with his visits. He was a free soul. He did not feel comfortable indoors for any longer than 12 hours. Finally after some trust was developed, Blackie was brought to the vet for his vaccine shots and an examination. After the veternarian did the examination, it turns out Blackie was fixed already. Fixed and feral? I have no reason to believe he belonged to anyone in particular in our neighbourhood. When I first met Blackie he had all signs and behavior of a feral cat. We made a ladder for Blackie to climb up to the livingroom window. This was very convenient. Whenever he wanted in he just showed himself at the window. During the winter he would spend all night in the house then be gone in the day. In the summer he would spend the rainy nights inside and on really hot days, inside in the air conditioning. Blackie had another trip to the vet when he developed an infection. He was very sick. But with vet care he bounced back to his same ol' self. We first met Blackie in 2006. He was approximately 6 years old when we first met him. He stayed with us until 2011 when he died. Losing Blackie was like losing a member of the family. This is the hard part when you take in 6+ year oid cats. With a kitten, the heartbreak is not as soon. All the cats I have ever adopted were 6+ years old and never really ever found their forever home. Every cat is unique and requires their own personal needs. I never met a cat like Blackie before. Blackie gave us so much love and we loved him so much too.
