This is BLACKIE affectionately aka "Manny Man"
07/02/2014 Blackie came to us from every direction. Who did he be long to? He showed up in the meadow one day. I worried about him on a regular basis. He came and went as he pleased. We had no history of him at all, he appeared to be feral as he hunted on our property. He certainly did not behave like a 'pet house cat'. Blackie was extremely nervous in the house the first couple of months. Matter of fact, his first visit was in the back door and out the front door. His second visit the same. He was very random with his visits. He was a free soul. He did not feel comfortable indoors for any longer than 12 hours.
Finally after some trust was developed, Blackie was brought to the vet for his vaccine shots and an examination. After the veternarian did the examination, it turns out Blackie was fixed already. Fixed and feral? I have no reason to believe he belonged to anyone in particular in our neighbourhood. When I first met Blackie he had all signs and behavior of a feral cat.
We made a ladder for Blackie to climb up to the livingroom window. This was very convenient. Whenever he wanted in he just showed himself at the window. During the winter he would spend all night in the house then be gone in the day. In the summer he would spend the rainy nights inside and on really hot days, inside in the air conditioning.
Blackie had another trip to the vet when he developed an infection. He was very sick. But with vet care he bounced back to his same ol' self.
We first met Blackie in 2006. He was approximately 6 years old when we first met him. He stayed with us until 2011 when he died. Losing Blackie was like losing a member of the family. This is the hard part when you take in 6+ year oid cats. With a kitten, the heartbreak is not as soon. All the cats I have ever adopted were 6+ years old and never really ever found their forever home.
Every cat is unique and requires their own personal needs. I never met a cat like Blackie before. Blackie gave us so much love and we loved him so much too.
