Snowed In
Story of the Robin Family
Here is the Robins bird nest full of snow and still positioned perfectly despite the heaviness.
A couple of Robins made their bird nest here right beside our house one Spring and hatched at least three baby robins this summer. They were so close to our house it was not hard to monitor their every move. I listened to the chicks peep in excitement when the mom brought food. I witnessed the chicks scrambling in the thickets trying to stay safe and learn to fly. It was a serious job for me to keep King from hunting them. In saying that 2 out of the 3 made it.
On a quiet calm late late autumn day I was so surprised and delighted to see one of the babies way up high in a tree facing south. I knew it was time for it to start flying south. I knew I would not see it again until Spring. I was kind of sad but then realised how lucky I was for the teenage Robin to wait for me to come outside to say bye before it left. I watched him fly away, over my head, directly south. I haven't seen it since and I pray the young Robin makes it back safely.
